After School Coaching Sessions
Young people have the opportunity to take part in sports including football, basketball, badminton, table tennis and swimming. Sessions normally take place within school sports halls to encourage participation and are led by National Governing Body coaches who are qualified in the various sports.
Sport Residential at The National Centre for Sport, Inverclyde
This is a five day residential trip where, during the day, the young people participate in a full programme of up to 16 different sports and outdoor activities. Each evening, participants take part in workshops covering issues such as drugs in sport, healthy eating etc.
Closing the Opportunity Gap, Target E
Community Sports Leaders Course
This is a 30 hour course to give young people aged 16+ the opportunity to become coaches themselves.
Topics covered include organising and delivering sessions, safety in sport, fitness and organising sporting events.
After the initial 30 hours, candidates must complete 10 voluntary hours in a sporting environment to receive their award.
The award is widely recognised by further and higher educational establishments and is a great stepping-stone for young people interested in a career in the sports or health
and leisure industry.
Sports Festival
This is a one day sporting event where all participants get together to compete in a multi-sports competition.
This takes place towards the end of the school year, after exams and is a reward for the young peoples commitment over the year.
Everyone receives a medal with the runners up and winners receiving gift vouchers for a sports shop.
