Hop, Skip and Jump is an early intervention project designed to target young people aged 8-12 living in areas of multiple deprivation. The project provides an opportunity for participants to take part in a wide range of fun learning activities that are otherwise unavailable to them, striving to support and encourage personal development through a programme of alternative and diversionary activities.

Hop, Skip and Jump currently runs from Haldane Primary School, providing activities and services after school, at weekends and during school holidays for over 100 young people from 3 primary schools in the vicinity. The programme is delivered through daily 'Funshops' involving the arts, physical activity, the environment, life skills, community involvement and outings. Activities are flexible allowing us to respond to requests from the young people.

Each year Hop, Skip and Jump provides over 200 'Funshops' tailored towards improving self-esteem, confidence and skill level. Activities are offered 5 days per week and the young people can opt into the programme by completing child friendly forms that are distributed monthly in the local primary schools.

Sports
Good health and wellbeing are encouraged through weekly sports sessions at 'Trainers and Trackies' and 'Goals and Baskets'. We also promote healthy eating by providing fruit and water at every session and we run a breakfast club during the school holidays.

The Arts
We aim to heighten awareness and participation in the arts by providing weekly activities involving dance, drama, photography, crafts, painting and much more. In addition to this we provide at least one cultural visit each month. This encourages the young people to broaden their horizons while discovering new interests and skills.

Community
To help reduce social exclusion and anti social behaviour we encourage community involvement where possible. The young people are involved in their community's regeneration through activities such as, planting trees, taking part in surveys and attending local events.

Primary 7's
We provide sessions for 'Primary 7's Only' where we work towards giving them a voice in their communities. This allows the young people to explore in depth the areas of concern or interest to them. Activities are planned by the young people themselves and can range from outdoor pursuits to award schemes such as The John Muir Award. This aspect of the programme provides additional support prior to the young people taking the leap into High School.

Holiday Provision
During school holidays we provide an extensive daily programme including weekly outings to places of interest. This ensures that the young people have plenty to do and that they are encouraged to keep fit and active. We also take a different group of young people on holiday each year enabling social and personal development while away from the pressures of home.
